Snow closes Abbeyfield School today

Emergency weather warnings have been issued by the Met Office for large parts of central and southern England.

Up to 20cm (8in) of snow fell in parts of Scotland and northern England on Tuesday causing travel chaos for millions of people.

More heavy snow fell overnight in Wiltshire as commuters and parents face a difficult journey to work and school this morning. As a result, many schools across the county have now confirmed that they are closed today (Wednesday), including Abbeyfield.

The Met Office said Dorset, Hampshire, Oxfordshire, Berkshire and Wiltshire has seen "exceptionally heavy" snow.

Hundreds of schools also have had to be closed in other parts of the country as the UK entered the grip of its longest cold snap for almost 30 years.
