The cost of keeping the desert green

During the summer months, in the United Arab Emirates, temperatures can rise to 40 Celsius while average rainfall is minimal.

However, the region is home to large populations and busy cities. Not only is this naturally inhospitable environment home to urban populations, but is also where you can find lush, green golf courses!

But is this really a sustainable option? The people here consume more water each day than anywhere else in the world – How is this possible?
