Row over new HEP projects in Malaysia

Plans to generate 12 more hydro-electric power dams in Malaysia has led to conflicting views about the ambitious construction projects.

10,000 people have been displaced in one area, to make way for a dam and reservoir. Those people have complained about water quality and employment issues in the areas they have moved to. opposition groups have alleged that corruption is rife.

However, those in favour state that these projects will create employment and will stimulate foreign investment.
