5.9 Magnitude earthquake strikes Italy

At least four people have been killed and up to 50 others injured in a 5.9-magnitude earthquake near the northern Italian city of Bologna.



The USGS said that the quake was centered 22 miles (35km) north-north-west of Bologna at a relatively shallow depth of 6.3 miles (10km) and stuck at 4am local time.

·    San Felice sul Panaro: 15th-Century castle severely damaged
·    The Finale Emilia: bell tower collapses, crushing cars
·    Sant' Agostino di Ferrara: ceramic factory destroyed, killing two employees
·    Buonacompra: historic church destroyed
·    Tremor also felt in cities of Bologna, Modena, Ferrara, Rovigo, Verona and Mantua
