Approximately one-third of the population of the USA have been affected by severve weather, including thunderstorms and a heatwave, with temperatures reaching 104F (40C) in places.

As a result of this period of intense heat, storms have developed, with winds reaching 91 mph, leaving millions without power and claiming the lives of at least 13 people. There were also major thunder and lightning storms and hailstorms reported.

As a result of the extreme weather, events have been cancelled and authorities have been issuing advice to people on how to keep cool as air conditioning systems have been knocked out due to the extensive power cuts.
Particularly vulnerable at this time are the young and elderly as dehydration becomes a serious issue.
